The Flame Boulder is a minor demon encountered in Ōkamiden. It is the Fire variation of the Death Boulder. The Flame Boulder is first encountered in the Five-Story Pagoda, where it threatens Chibiterasu with its fiery covering. It is a flaming Death Boulder, but differs in its red coloring and dangerous flames. It rolls into attack only when Chibiterasu comes close enough, and at all other times lies unmoving and without flame.
Background[]
The Flame Boulder was caught in an volcanic eruption, which filled it with rage and pain and cause it to be engulfed with fire. It attacks others, hoping for an end to its pain. Its pain also leads to its odd movement patterns.[1]
Bestiary entry[]
- ↑
"These creatures were caught in a volcanic eruption and filled with rage.
The pain of being engulfed in flame leads to their erratic movements.
In an effort to end their torment, they lash out at others.
Their flames will set anyone on fire who comes in contact with them."
Strategy[]
The Flame Boulder, like most minor demons, will be killed quickly to blows by Divine Instruments (namely the Glaive or Providence Crystal) or Celestial Brush techniques. Divine Instruments with long reach, like the Providence Crystal, are best, as too closely approaching a Flame Boulder may leave Chibiterasu open to being burned by its attacks.
Trivia[]
- In the Creatures entry, the name of the Flame Boulder is misspelled as "Flame Boullder", with the double "l".
