Fish in Ōkami are able to be caught through fishing, and then sold to merchants for yen. In the fan menu players can access a list of fish they have caught so far, the list transfers over to New Game+ as well. All merchants, except for Demon Fang traders, will purchase fish from Amaterasu, but those in Taka Pass and Sei'an City (specifically the Tool Dealer) will pay extra for specific types. Fish caught in Kamui are sold at the same price everywhere, with three exceptions.
A few fish are also unique and can only be caught once, such as the giant salmon in "Ume is lost", the Whopper in "Remaining Warriors", and the cutlass fish in "Capital Under Misty Siege". The marlin is also required to be caught for the side mission "Now Serving Marlin!", but can afterwards still be caught separately.
Fish[]
Generally the size of the fish affects the required number of slashes to catch it, with larger fish thus needing more, and thus being harder to catch as well. They can also be used as an indication of when the fish will actually be available, and what size to look for.
When it comes to day- and nighttime the game is fairly generous, meaning fish can be caught in early dawn or late at night.
