The Blue Wildfire is a type of minor demon encountered in Ōkamiden. It belongs to the Wildfire category of demons, among its crimson and green brethren.

Description[]

The Blue Wildfire is first encountered as a group of five in the shape of a pentagon at Agata Forest when Chibiterasu and Kuni was looking for clues of a sacrificed mermaid to appease a demon catfish. These Blue Wildfires are connected into the shape of a star, and a portal to a market of demons is conjured. However, it is not until Chibiterasu and Kurow enter the Underground Ruins that this demon is truly fought. The Blue Wildfire is depicted as a blue sphere of fire, approximately the size of a fist. On the front of the sphere is a grinning pitch-black mouth with two fangs on the upper lip, and above the mouth is a typical oni horn with an ivory color.

Background[]

The Blue Wildfire has always been depicted as a burning flame sphere of paranormal causes that no human agents can extinguish. Loathing wind and rain, this being wanders the same path in the moonlight, as if searching for a lost item.[1]

Bestiary entry[]

  1. "A burning ball of demon flame.
The flames that envelope their bodies cannot be extinguished by any human agent.
They wander the same path repeatedly, as if searching for a lost item.
They despise wind and rain, and prefer the moonlight instead."

Strategy[]

The Blue Wildfire is normally idle and will wander around in a slow pace, but if Chibiterasu enters its vicinity, it will emit the sound of a roaring fire, and rushes towards him with surprising speed. Dispel it with Divine Instruments (most recommended the Rosary and Providence Crystal for their range) or Celestial Brush techniques, specifically Power Slash, Galestorm and Waterspout, though to increase efficiency in repelling the Blue Wildfire, their Secret Celestial Brush techniques upgrades are recommended. While Whirlwind will dispel any of these demons should they come close to Chibiterasu, Splash will extinguish any that are within the camera range, as long as the downpour last. Should his attacks' range are good enough, Chibiterasu can also kill the demons without them noticing him. Another solution for the Blue Wildfire is to simply outrun it, though a chasing demon has a surprising speed, and most of the time, multiple Wildfires are encountered, possibly injuring Chibiterasu or obscuring his escape route. If a Blue Wildfire is killed, like all other minor demons, it will release either Ink Pots or Rice Balls.

Trivia[]

  • The Blue Wildfire, like all other minor demons of the Wildfire category, is based on the Japanese onibi of Japanese folklore.
